The Cronus Zen works with both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but each console has its own requirements. Here's how to set it up correctly for either system.

What You'll Need

For both consoles you need the Cronus Zen, a compatible controller, and USB cables. For PS5 with a DualSense controller, you also need the Zen PlayStation Remote Play dongle — a small USB stick that authenticates the controller with the console. Without it, PS5 will reject third-party input devices. Xbox Series X|S controllers typically work via the Zen without extra hardware, though wired connections are more reliable.

PS5 Setup

Connect the Zen to your PS5 with a USB cable (Console port to the PS5). Plug the Remote Play dongle into the Zen's USB-A port. Put the dongle into pairing mode (follow Cronus instructions), then on your PS5 go to Settings → Accessories → General → Bluetooth Accessories and pair it. This authenticates the Zen as a valid controller source.

For the controller: if using a DualSense, connect it to the Zen's A port via USB or pair via Bluetooth. Hold Share + PS to enter pairing mode, then sync with the Zen. Wired is recommended for lower latency. If using a DualShock 4 or other supported controller, connect it the same way to the Zen's A port.

Xbox Series X|S Setup

Xbox is more straightforward. Connect the Zen to your Series X|S via USB (Console port to the console). Plug your Xbox controller into the Zen's A port with a USB cable — no extra dongle required. The console recognizes the Zen as a passthrough device.

For wireless Xbox controllers, enable pairing mode on the controller (Xbox button + sync), then pair it to the Zen via the Zen's Bluetooth. Note: wireless Xbox on Zen can add a bit of latency compared to wired.

Wireless vs Wired

  • Wired: Lowest latency, no pairing hassles, most reliable. Best for competitive play.
  • Wireless (Bluetooth): Convenient but adds a few milliseconds of delay. Fine for casual gaming; some players notice the difference in fast-paced shooters.

When in doubt, go wired. Use a quality USB cable and avoid long extensions to prevent signal degradation.

Compatibility Notes

PS5 has stricter authentication than Xbox. The Remote Play dongle is mandatory for DualSense on PS5 — there's no workaround. Xbox Series X|S accepts the Zen natively via USB. Both consoles receive firmware updates that can occasionally affect compatibility; keep your Zen firmware and Zen Studio up to date.
