Fades are the most effective way to score when closely guarded. A well-timed fade creates separation that no defender can contest. Here's how to master every type in 2K26.
| Type | Input | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Middy fade | Hold LT + shoot while moving laterally | Mid-range (elbow, baseline, free throw) |
| 3PT fade | Hold LT + shoot while moving laterally beyond the arc | Three-point line |
| Step-back | RS ↓ + LT, then shoot | Mid or 3PT depending on position |
| Post fade | Post up (LT) → RS toward basket → RS away + shoot | Close to mid-range |
| Spin fade | Post up → spin (RS rotate) → shoot while spinning | Close to mid-range |
| Hop step fade | Drive → tap X/Square → immediately shoot | Mid-range |
The mid-range fadeaway is the highest-percentage contested shot in 2K26. It's nearly unguardable when done right.
Face up with the ball near the elbow or free-throw line.
Hold LT/L2 and move the left stick laterally (not toward the basket).
Press shoot while moving. Your player leans away from the defender.
Time the release at the top of the jump. Green's AI Auto-Green releases at the green window for you.
Same mechanic as middy fades but from beyond the arc. These are harder to green but devastating when they hit.
The step-back creates 3–4 feet of separation instantly. It's the go-to move for creating open 3-pointers.
Dribble toward the defender to close distance.
Pull RS ↓ while holding LT/L2 — your player steps back.
Immediately press shoot before the defender recovers.
