The 8 memory slots are the most underused feature on the Cronus Zen. Most people flash one script into slot 1 on day one and never think about slots again — then re-flash from scratch every time they switch games, or message support confused about why the script they "loaded" isn't running. Ten minutes of understanding how slots actually work turns the Zen into a multi-game device you configure once and drive from the couch.
How Slots Work
The Zen has 8 memory slots, each holding one compiled script. The scripts live on the device itself — not in Zen Studio, not on your PC. Once flashed, they persist through power cycles, console switches, and everything else. Your PC is only involved when you want to change what's in a slot.
Two concepts people conflate, which cause most slot confusion:
- Flashing — writing a script into a slot via Zen Studio's Programmer tab (drag the .gpc in, hit Compile & Run).
- Selecting — choosing which slot is active, done with the physical button on the device. Only the selected slot runs.
Flashing does not select. You can flash a script to slot 3 and the Zen will keep running slot 1 until you cycle over. The OLED screen is your ground truth — whatever name it shows is what's running. If it shows "No Gamepack Selected," you're on an empty slot in pass-through mode.
Flashing Multiple Scripts
The workflow in Zen Studio:
- Connect the Zen to your PC via the PROG port (side of the device).
- Open the Programmer tab. You'll see the slot layout.
- Drag each .gpc file into its slot — one script per slot.
- Compile and program. Watch the output panel for errors; a slot with a failed compile holds nothing.
- Unplug PROG when you're done — it must not stay connected during gameplay.

How I Organize My Slots
There's no wrong layout, but after years of this, here's the structure I recommend to anyone running multiple games:
- Slot 1: your main game. The script you use most, in the slot the device lands on naturally.
- Slots 2–3: secondary games. For me that's
Green in slot 1 and
Champion for Fortnite in slot 2, with
FPS in 3. - Slots 4–7: situational. Alt configurations, a friend's preferred setup, seasonal games. Scripts like
Rust or
Siege that you play in phases. - Slot 8: empty, always. Deliberately. An empty slot gives you instant pass-through for the PS5 bypass (which requires no script running) and for A/B testing whether a mod is actually doing something.
Write the layout on a sticky note or set it once in your head — the OLED shows names when you cycle, but knowing "2K is one press away, Fortnite is two" makes switching thoughtless.
Switching Mid-Session
Cycling slots on the device takes a button press and works any time — no PC, no app. Practical rules:
- Switch between matches, not mid-round. The swap is instant but you don't want it mid-gunfight.
- On PS5, slot switching doesn't touch your authentication — once the bypass is done, cycle freely. Only a full disconnect (or rest mode drop) makes you re-authenticate.
- The console never knows anything changed — it sees the same standard controller throughout.
