Every Cronus script seller advertises some flavor of "aim assist mod." Most of them are variations on the same crude idea: shake the stick back and forth so the game thinks you're aiming. It works, sort of, but it has real downsides. Polar Aim Assist is our answer to those downsides, and since it's the mod people ask the most technical questions about, this post is the full explanation.

The Problem It Solves

Quick recap of the foundation (the ⁠aim assist boost explainer covers it in depth): console shooters give controllers rotational aim assist that gently tracks targets for you — but only while your sticks are active. Dead sticks, no rotation. So the goal of any aim assist mod is simple: keep the sticks active at all times while aiming, without wrecking your actual aim.

That last clause is where cheap implementations fail. If you inject side-to-side stick movement, the corrections don't cancel cleanly — your crosshair develops a visible jitter, and at higher amplitudes it drags your aim off target. You've traded assist uptime for aim stability, which is a bad trade.

Why "Polar"

Polar coordinates describe position as an angle and a radius instead of X and Y. Polar Aim Assist moves your right-stick input around a tiny circle — the angle continuously rotates while the radius stays small and constant. Three properties fall out of that geometry:

  • The corrections cancel over every cycle. A full rotation of a circle sums to zero net displacement. Your aim point ends each cycle exactly where it started, so there's no cumulative drift in any direction.
  • Stick activity never drops to zero. Unlike back-and-forth shake — which passes through the center (zero input) twice per cycle — circular motion maintains constant deflection magnitude. The game sees uninterrupted stick activity, which is exactly what rotational assist wants.
  • The motion is smooth. No sharp reversals, so the injected input looks like organic micro-adjustment rather than a square wave.

In short: the circle keeps rotational aim assist engaged continuously while contributing zero net movement to your aim. That's the whole trick, and it's a genuinely better shape for the job than a shake.

What It Feels Like In Game

Correctly tuned, you don't see anything. The circle's radius sits below the threshold of visible crosshair movement. What you feel is indirect: strafing targets seem "stickier," your tracking holds through jumps and slides more often, and fights where you'd normally lose the target for a frame or two stay glued. Players who dead-stick while aiming feel the biggest change, because they were getting the least rotational assist before — I covered that pattern in the ⁠boost explainer.

It also composes with the other mods in the ⁠FPS script. Polar Aim Assist keeps the game's assist engaged; ⁠Auto-Tracking with Headlock adds directional micro-corrections on top; vertical + horizontal anti-recoil keeps the spray flat once you fire. Each mod handles a different phase of the fight.

What It Cannot Do

Same honesty section I put in every one of these posts:

  • It has no target detection. The Zen can't see the screen or read game memory. If your crosshair is nowhere near an enemy, there's no aim assist to amplify and Polar does nothing visible.
  • It requires the game's aim assist. Mouse-and-keyboard input or an aim-assist-free mode gives it nothing to work with.
  • It won't fix flicks. Rotational assist helps tracking, not acquisition. Getting your crosshair to the target is still your job.

Tuning Notes

The script exposes the effect strength. Two practical rules from support experience: first, if you can see your crosshair orbiting, the radius is set too high — back it off until the motion disappears visually. Second, your in-game minimum deadzone gates the whole mod: if the deadzone is higher than the circle's radius, the game never receives the motion at all.
