Xbox Is the Easiest Console to Set Up
If you're using a Cronus Zen on Xbox, the good news is that setup is extremely straightforward. Unlike PS5, there's no bypass process. You plug in two USB cables and you're done.
This guide covers Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One. The process is identical for all three.
What You Need
- A Cronus Zen device with the latest firmware installed.
- An Xbox controller — any official Xbox wireless controller works. It connects via USB cable, not Bluetooth.
- Two USB cables — one from your Xbox to the Cronus Zen, and one from your controller to the Cronus Zen.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Connect the Cronus Zen to your Xbox. Plug a USB cable from any USB port on your Xbox into the OUTPUT port (the top micro-USB port on the Cronus Zen).
- Plug your Xbox controller into the Cronus Zen. Use a USB cable to connect your controller to the A1 port (the left-side USB port on the Cronus Zen).
- Turn on your Xbox. The Cronus Zen will power on automatically when the console starts. The LED will cycle through colors and then settle, indicating it's connected.
- Load your script. Use the Cronus Zen's onboard buttons to select the memory slot with your script, or leave it on the home screen if you just want to test the connection.
That's it. No settings to change on the Xbox, no bypass, no Bluetooth pairing.
Setting the Output Protocol
For the best experience, you should set the Cronus Zen's output protocol to match your console. Before you disconnect from your PC:
- Open Zen Studio with the Cronus Zen connected.
- Go to Device → Output Protocol.
- Select Xbox One X/S (this works for all Xbox models, including Series X and Series S).
This step isn't strictly required — the Cronus Zen can auto-detect your console — but setting it manually prevents occasional connection hiccups.
Using Alternative Controllers
One of the Cronus Zen's best features is cross-controller support. You can use a PS5 DualSense, PS4 DualShock, or even a keyboard and mouse on your Xbox.
To use an alternative controller:
- Keep an official Xbox controller plugged into the A1 port for authentication. This controller needs to stay connected but you won't be using it.
- Plug your preferred controller into the A3 port (the front-left USB port).
- The Cronus Zen translates the input so your Xbox thinks you're using a standard Xbox controller.
Troubleshooting
The Cronus Zen LED keeps flashing and won't settle
This usually means the controller isn't being recognized. Try a different USB cable — some cables are charge-only. Use the cable that came with your Xbox controller if possible.
Controller disconnects randomly during gameplay
Make sure the PROG port (right-side micro-USB) is not plugged in. The PROG port is only for Zen Studio connections on your PC. If it's connected during gameplay, it forces the device into programming mode and causes disconnects.
Input feels laggy
The Cronus Zen adds virtually zero latency, but some USB hubs or extension cables can introduce delay. Connect directly to the Xbox's USB port, not through a hub.
